I was honoured to have been selected as one of the 10 First Nations Creators to be a part of the and Creators Program, class of 2023.We were tasked with challenged to create 5 x Instagram reels. To be honest it was a huge challenge for me at first as I have been creating content for nearly 9 years and like many, can get easily overwhelmed with the absorbent amount of work, attention and time that goes into the never ending cycle of content creation. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a thriving support network of fellow First Nations creatives and support staff from both Meta and SA. It reignited my passion for storytelling & allowed me to be a student for the first time in years. I was challenged to start with a dream concept that took constant reworking to land on the series ‘When I grow up...’I’m proud to have created a concept that was deeply meaningful to me and hopefully to other creators and especially First Nations people. Being in the spotlight and having opportunities like this is not often a privileged awarded to our people. I wanted to use this opportunity to showcase Indigenous excellence so as to provide role models that would empower our people to see themselves in these roles and navigate their way to the front. To reclaim their sense of identity so that they too can be supported and celebrated to thrive. When we elevate the voices of those who have not yet been herd, we not only reap the rewards of more diverse solutions to the world's problems, expansive art and creativity, we sow seeds for generations to come. This systematic change sends a message of possibility deep into marginalised communities and perpetuates true reconciliation and accessibility for years of dreaming to come.Check out the full series on my profile and thanks to the team who helped to make it possible.
